MJ Menlo Park INC is a straightforward, approachable Japanese restaurant tucked into the Sharon Park neighborhood of Menlo Park. This spot has quickly become a go-to for locals looking for fresh, no-fuss sushi without the premium Palo Alto price tag. Expect a relaxed, casual vibe that suits both quick solo lunches and easy group dinners.

The atmosphere is unpretentious with friendly staff who move efficiently to seat diners and serve orders promptly, making it a convenient choice if you’re hunting for fresh sushi after work or on a weekend evening. The menu clearly centers on sushi and Japanese staples like edamame, miso soup, and chicken karaage, with a solid range of hand rolls and sushi combos. The deluxe chirashi and sashimi offerings are notable picks for anyone wanting variety and freshness in a single meal. Veggie rolls like the Mango Secret or Sweet Potato roll also stand out, appealing nicely to plant-based or lighter eaters.

MJ Menlo Park delivers particularly well if you crave sushi that balances quality and value. The sushi here tends to be bright and flavorful, with some attention to detail that feels thoughtful rather than flashy. While the tuna can vary in appearance, the overall freshness of fish and precision in rolls generally makes the trip worth it. The restaurant doesn’t serve very late, which locals might find a bit limiting compared to sister locations, but it works well for early dinners or casual lunchtime gatherings.

This place is ASTRONOMICAL. Sushi is cheap for the area, is extremely flavorful, and the attention to detail on some of these rolls are just chefs kiss. I come here very often to get food and it is highly enjoyed by me and friends. If your in the area and are craving sushi this is the place to go. One (extremely) small downside is for the tuna. Sometimes it's color is very light and is sometimes chopped in smaller rolls like the smaller tuna roll. Other than that everything is PERFECT

I go here all the time and love the yummy food, chill atmosphere, great prices, and kind staff. This is a great go-to sushi spot for dinner out that isn’t too expensive

I can confidently say that if you want good sushi, this is the place to come. The sashimi is very fresh and amazing, and I highly recommend the deluxe box-it's one of the best things you'll ever have. While the meat and chicken aren't the standout items here, the service is excellent, and the sushi is definitely worth trying.

I love this place! I’m so glad it opened in Menlo Park. We usually go to the one in Palo Alto but decided to check out this place that just opened in Menlo Park and it’s just as good! The service is fast. They seated us pretty much when we walked in, took our order quickly, and we didn’t have to wait too long for our appetizers or sushi to arrive. The downside is they don’t open as late as the Palo Alto one. Also since they just opened there were free drinks, but don’t know how long they will keep that up since that’s just an opening thing (when we went in November). The food is great as usual. It’s the same level of quality as the Palo Alto location which is great. They have relatively affordable sushi and the rolls are very flavorful. The inside is nice. It has pretty standard Japanese decorations. It is small like the Palo Alto one, but still has plenty of tables to seat everyone. I also like how it’s located next to Safeway. It’s very convenient to get dinner and then also get your grocery shopping in as well. The parking was also not a problem since it’s located in the same plaza as Safeway. We just parked in the lot outside and it was fine.

I eat here at least twice a month, and last week, a group of us took a coworker here for his birthday. I told the waitress that it was our coworker's birthday and asked if they did something special for birthdays, and she said they didn't. This certainly wasn't a deal breaker, so we all ordered. As we were finishing our lunches, we heard 'happy birthday' start playing, and the waitress and another staff member brought out a sushi cake made up of two layers of rice with orange sauce in the middle and on top, and salmon layed out in a circle on top. It was far better than anything we would have imagined from a sushi restaurant. I asked if they'd made this kind of birthday cake before, and they said - never. Everything was excellent, and they took the time to set up the 'happy birthday' song and create a great sushi cake.
